When Can You Bike Going-to-the-Sun Road With Less Traffic?
The spring hiker-biker period offers the best chance to ride upper road sections without ordinary vehicle traffic, but the usable distance changes with plowing, road-crew closures, avalanche closures, and weather.

The short answer
During full vehicle operation, avoid prohibited hours and understand that legal does not mean pleasant. The NPS says only riders experienced with heavy two-way traffic should consider peak-summer cycling.
Spring access is not a fixed event
Road-crew closures generally apply Monday through Thursday during plowing. Avalanche closures remain in force at all times. Progressive access is updated as conditions change. In 2026 the usual hiker-biker shuttle was not offered.
Peak-season prohibited hours
From full road opening through September 27, eastbound bicycles from Apgar to Logan Pass are prohibited from noon to 6 p.m. Westbound bicycles from Logan Pass to Apgar are prohibited from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Verify these rules immediately before riding.
