Why would Gulf sea-breeze boundaries trigger summer showers near New Orleans?

An inland-moving marine boundary can lift warm humid air, but it is only one of several possible storm triggers.

Land heats faster than nearby Gulf waters during the day. The warmer air over land rises, helping create a local circulation that brings relatively cooler marine air inland. The leading edge, called a sea-breeze front or boundary, can behave somewhat like a small cold front.

When that boundary lifts warm humid air in an unstable atmosphere, clouds, showers, or thunderstorms may develop along or near it. Intersections with thunderstorm outflow or other boundaries can increase lift and focus development.

New Orleans is not an open Gulf beach
