Current Weather Conditions in Sedona

Current weather information is temporarily unavailable.

Spring and fall are the broadest-fit seasons

Moderate daytime conditions usually make walking, hiking, scenic drives, and outdoor tours easier than in midsummer. These are also popular periods, so comfortable weather does not guarantee solitude, easy trailhead parking, or low lodging prices.

Summer requires a timing strategy

Sedona is cooler than the lowest Arizona deserts but can still become dangerously hot on exposed trails. The National Weather Service notes that Sedona can be 20 to 30 degrees warmer than Flagstaff on many summer nights because of its lower setting near Oak Creek Canyon and the Mogollon Rim. Start demanding outdoor activity early, carry more water than you expect to need, and do not use elevation as proof that heat is harmless.

Monsoon changes afternoon risk

Northern Arizona's official monsoon season runs from June 15 through September 30, although meaningful moisture often arrives later. Lightning, sudden heavy rain, flash flooding, strong wind, and rapidly changing trail conditions matter more than a simple daily rain symbol.

Winter is a real season

Sedona can receive snow, and shaded trails may remain icy after sunny roads begin to clear. A winter visit can reward flexible travelers, but the correct plan depends on the exact storm, trail elevation, road conditions, and footwear.

The decision

  • Choose spring or fall for the easiest all-around outdoor schedule.
  • Choose summer only if early starts and weather-driven changes are acceptable.
  • Choose winter for lower crowd pressure and seasonal scenery, with backup plans for snow or ice.
